Specific absorption rate (SAR) is used as a metric for human protection from radio-frequency exposure although biological effect due to radio-frequency absorption is caused by the temperature elevation. The temperature elevation for microwave exposure has not been investigated sufficiently in the frequency region above 3 GHz. For localized exposures, peak spatial-average SAR is used as a metric. However, peak spatial-average SAR is largely affected by its averaging scheme. In the present study, we investigated the effect of different averaging scheme for SAR on the correlation between peak spatial average SAR and temperature elevation. Temperature elevation in the head is correlated with averaged SAR below 3GHz. However, peak spatial-average SAR is found that the effect of different averaging scheme on SAR is obvious above 6GHz. Temperature elevation in the brain is almost identical that the slope of the curves become lower with the higher frequency to each averaging schemes. |
