For improving sound and thermal energy conversion efficiency of loop-tube-type thermoacoustic systems, we have proposed the use of additional structure placed in the tube, namely "Phase Adjuster" (PA). In this study, for the purpose of making it possible to design thermoacoustic systems using PA, acoustic characteristics of PA for standing-wave field in the closed-end circular tube was studied by experiments and analyses. Based on Rott's equations, distributions of sound pressure, volume velocity, and sound power flow were analyzed from measured sound pressure by two pressure sensor pairs for both circular-tube areas divided by PA. Comparing analyzed distributions with estimated total sound field, calculated by using a simple linear model of PA and measured sound pressure at the closed end, reveals notable nonlinear sound power loss by PA for larger sound amplitudes, which is proportional to the cubic of the particle velocity. |
