Sharing sympathy of neighboring users by detecting synchronized movements of handheld devices

(in English) Recently, development of context-aware systems that provide services automatically recognizing users' contexts by using sensors have become popular. Such systems can be used not only for individuals but also for groups by detecting group's context. In such group based context-aware systems, it is important how to from groups. In this paper, we propose sharing sympathy system that provides users opportunities to communicate with other users who have similar interests by dynamically grouping users according to their similar actions detected by sensors on handheld devices. We describe the basic design and applications of the system and the implementation of a prototype system which makes groups according to actions of hand claps. The system can be used as the basis of applications supporting communications between people who have minority opinions which tend to be omitted.
