Optimization of Viterbi decoding employing a heterogeneous cognitive radio for public mobile communication systems

(in English) In this paper, to improve reliability and to complement no service area of public mobile communication systems (PMCS) using a large zone scheme, we consider combining the PMCS with commercial systems such as cellular systems based on techniques of heterogeneous cognitive radio. The aim of this cognitive radio improves bit error rate (BER) by getting auxiliary information from the commercial systems when quality of PMCS is poor at mobile station. Since PMCS use convolutional code for Forward Error Correction (FEC), we deal with the methods which apply the auxiliary information to Viterbi decoding of a convolutional code in PMCS. Two methods named replacing method and adding method are proposed in this paper. Distance spectrum is often used to evaluate capability of convolutional code. In this paper, we show methods to compute the distance spectrum applying a replacing method and an adding method. Moreover, theoretical BER is calculated by using the distance spectrum. We confirmed that this theoretical BER accorded closely with BER estimated by computer simulation in large signal power to noise power ratio (SNR).
