A remark of MIMO channel capacity by the characteristics of mobile terminal antennas

(in English) This report discusses evaluation factors to enhance the channel capacity of MIMO antennas for mobile terminals. Two-element dipole array is used as an approximate model of the mobile terminal to discuss its correlation coefficient and radiation efficiency, which results in low radiation efficiency degrading the channel capacity. In the next step, the minimization of correlation coefficient between antenna elements provides the channel capacity enhancement under different propagation environment models for the terminal antennas with high radiation efficiency. In addition, an optimized antenna design in free space by minimizing the correlation is effective for the cases including the effect of hand, head and body, which are verified for the inverted-F antenna array for a mobile terminal.
