Effects of OLT Activation Control on Quality of Communication Services in Virtualized PON

(in English) We’ve started to develop Virtual PON, low-enrgy-consumption PON toward the realization of next
generation optical access systems accomodating wide-area and large capapcity networks. It adopts a mechanism
that reduces energy comsumption to change the number of OLTs according to total traffic volume. The number of
active OLTs determins quality of communication services. Therefore, the number of active OLTs and the timing
of its increasing and decreasing are fairly critical parameters in Virtual PON. In this paper, we evaluated effects of
these parameters on changes of quality of services using computer simulation.
