This paper investigates log-likelihood ratio (LLR) generation methods at decoder input for antenna receiver diversity using low-rate turbo code in discrete Fourier transform (DFT)-precoded orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA). First method is to generate LLR by combining the individual computed LLR at each receiver diversity branch (hereafter, LLR computation based on individual LLR combining). Second method is to generate LLR from the diversity-combined signal after frequency domain equalizer (FDE) (hereafter, LLR computation using combined signal after FDE). Computer simulation results show when channel codding rate is equal or smaller than approximately R = 1/5, LLR computation using combined signal after FDE achieves almost same average block error rate (BLER) performance level as that for LLR computation based on individual LLR combining. We show, however, that the required average received signal-to-noise power ratio (SNR) at the average BLER of 10-2 of LLR computation using combined signal after FDE is decreased by approximately 0.5 dB compared to that for LLR computation based on individual LLR combining when R is high such as 3/4. |
