This paper investigates the average block error rate (BLER) performance of codebook based transmit diversity using adaptive antenna selection (AAS) for discrete Fourier transform (DFT)-precoded orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA). Computer simulation results show that the required average received signal-to-noise power ratio (SNR) of codebook based transmit diversity with 2 or 4 streams using AAS decreases by increasing the number of transmit antennas NTx value up to 8 even in the condition when a sufficient received diversity effect is obtained using NRx = 8 receiver antennas. We also show that for NTx = 4, the 2 streams using AAS decreases the required average received SNR compared to that for 4-stream transmission for NRx = 4- and 6-antenna receiver diversity, and however, 4-stream transmission decreases the required average received SNR compared to that for 2 streams with AAS for NRx = 8-antenna receiver diversity. Moreover, we show in the low-mobility environment with maximum Doppler frequency of lower than approximately 10 Hz, 2-stream transmission using AAS with NTx = 4 decreases the required average received SNR at the average BLER of 10-2 by approximately 1.5 - 2.0 dB compared to that for 2-steam transmission with NTx = 2. |
