MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) SC-FDE (Single Carrier-Frequency Domain Equalization) scheme has its low PAPR (Peak to Average Power Ratio) characteristic and is often used for the uplink transmission from user equipment to base station. However, when comparing MIMO SC-FDE with MIMO OFDM, SC-FDE is more influenced by impulsive noise than OFDM. This is because in SC-FDE a symbol transmitted in time domain is largely influenced by impulsive noise, while in OFDM the influence of impulsive noise is dispersed over all subcarriers in frequency domain. For overcoming its vulnerability against the impulsive noise, an orthogonal matrix transform using Zadoff-Chu (ZC) sequence is applied to SC-FDE where the frequency diversity effect of SC-FDE is still maintained. As the probability density function of impulsive noise amplitude, we adopted Middleton’s class A model. We considered two types of receiver structure, i.e., MMSE nulling receiver and ISI canceller + MLD receiver. Through computer simulations, we confirmed the improvement of BER characteristics due to ZC matrix transform for both receivers. |
