For the diagnosis of fracture associated with bone-thinning osteoporosis, we have developed a transducer vibration method for interference-based reflection-type in vivo measurement for acoustic impedance of bone. The measurement can be carried out without binding the patient and in a short time. The acoustic impedance method can be used as an osteoporosis diagnostic tool for periodic examination, since ultrasound causes no damage to the human body. Furthermore, since this method based on the reflection method, the measurement site is not limited as compared with transmission method. The transducer vibration method needs to have a variable length region of the transmission line. The conventional transducer for this method didn’t have the region, the acoustic coupler added on the surface of the transducer behaved as the variable length region. However, it is hard to vibrate the transducer without fall away from the body. In this paper, we describe a method to improve the transducer by including the variable length region of the transmission line in the transducer. |
