In the fields of tasks of operational managements or air traffic controls, users are required to notice any changes or problems in system condition and to solve the problems by monitoring information about monitored targets even though during main task. For this requirement, we previously proposed a visualization method by using motions of simple figures (objects) for users to notice changing situations and we revealed that motion is effective in noticing changing situations. However, objects sometimes have too much visual attention under some conditions of UI elements and layouts, so they might disturb users' concentrations to tasks. To clarify this problem, we carried out an examination to find influences of objects' sizes and distances from a fixed point on users’ task performance. In our examination, a subject transcribed documents in an environment that objects were displayed whose velocities were changed. And an experimenter measured performances of transcribing under some conditions of objects' sizes and distances from a fixed point. We found that (1) in case that the objects are displayed near the transcribing task screen, the performances became the maximum at the objects whose size are 32pixel, (2) in case that objects’ sizes are 16pixel and objects are displayed in 55.8cm from a fixed point, the performances of the task became better at the objects displayed farther away from a fixed point. We concluded that both objects’ size and objects’ distance from a fixed point were clarified to be possible to effect on performances of tasks. |
