Self-assembled structures of melem were investigated at aqueous solution―Au(111) interfaces by cyclic voltammetry and in situ scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). In the weakly basic and neutral aqueous solutions of melem, three self-assembled structures, which are a honeycomb network, a close-packed structure and fibril structure, were constructed by electrochemical potential control at the aqueous solution―Au(111) interfaces. In acidic solution, melem formed just honeycomb and close-packed structures, however, such fibril-like structures were not observed because of interruption of heptazine rings stacking between melem molecules by adjacent counter ions. |
