A Study on Sparse Channel Estimation in Single Carrier Communications

(in English) It has been reported that when channel estimation performance is unsatisfactory when conventional estimation methods are used to estimate sparse channels, which appear in real environments.
In this article, we propose a blind estimation method for sparse channels in single carrier communications.
The proposed method detects the position of nonzero taps and then estimates the nonzero tap coefficients.
In the nonzero tap detection process, after the magnitude of taps is estimated based on the linear prediction principle, the nonzero taps are determined by compering with a threshold.
A conventional blind estimation method is modified such that only the detected nonzero taps are estimated.
Since the number of taps required to estimate can be greatly reduced, it can be expected that the estimation accuracy improves when the number of available data is limited.
Simulation results show that the proposed method is superior to a conventional method.
