Study of an ESD Immunity Test Procedure for Charged Frame Model in Personal Care Robots -- Simulation of Discharge from the Robot User --

(in English) The charged frame ESD test introduced in the EMC product standard of electrically powered wheelchairs (ISO 7176-21) is also useful as a safety verification test for personal care robots. This test simulates ESD events that occur when a wheelchair is charged by triboelectrification during driving and comes into contact with a grounded metal object. According to the test procedure, a wheelchair without a dummy on board is charged to a specified potential and then discharged by placing a strap grounded at one end on each test point of the wheelchair. Personal care robots are categorized as person carrier robots, physical assistant robots, and mobile servant robots. Charged frame ESDs that occur in the practical use of person carrier and physical assistant robots include ESDs from robot users. Although it is important that the test method simulate ESD events caused during the practical use of equipment, test reproducibility and practicability must be also considered. This report is the third on our studies on ESD immunity test methods for personal care robots; it investigates whether the use of a human-shaped phantom is effective for a charged frame ESD test that simulates ESD from a robot user.
