To realize p-i-n type organic photovoltaic cells by a solution process, selected organic molecules/solvents are necessary. In this research, we investigated the novel solution process, called as the electrospray deposition method. In this process, a high voltage of several kV is applied to the polymer solution, which is then divided into several particles with diameters of the order of a few μm. As a result, most of the solvent evaporates before reaching a substrate due to the large surface area. This fact indicates a multilayer structure can be deposited without dissolving the underlying organic layer. We achieved the multilayer structure by decreasing the distance between the glass capillary and the substrate. In addition, the substrate heating is also important factor to evaporate the solvent from the PCBM droplet. The photoconversion efficiency of conventional organic photovoltaic cell without PCBM layer was 1.52%; however, the photoconversion efficiency of multilayer device became 1.97%. In addition, circle structures with several 10 m were observed on the top of PCBM layer. |
