[Invited Talk] Recent trend of wavelength unbundling in optical access network

(in English) Research and development of TDM/WDM-PON (TWDM-PON) system, which enables us to construct multiple TDM-PONs on the same PON infrastructure using WDM technology, has been progressing rapidly to meet the demand of transmission capacity in optical access network. It is possible for a network provider to enhance the capacity of the PON using TWDM-PON system. On the other hand, if newly added wavelengths are allotted to other network providers, it will be possible to construct multiple PONs on the same infrastructure, i.e., the PON infrastructure can be unbundled in the wavelength level. In this paper, we describe the configuration of the network using wavelength unbundling. We also refer to international standardization activities regarding TWDM-PON technology. Moreover, recent R&D efforts including the TWDM-PON system development and the studies about wavelength allocation are reviewed.
