Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The retinal neuronal circuit processes input image and sends the compressed information to the brain by the ganglion cells (GCs), the output neurons, in real time. In other words, the information of input image is efficiently corded in the spatiotemporal distribution of action potentials (APs) in the retinal ganglion cells. In order to study how the input image is corded and represented in the APs of GCs, we designed the retinal circuit emulator and implemented Izhikevich model with FPGA to reproduce the GC responses to natural image. The emulator can reproduce the neural images represented with action potentials in the alpha and beta type retinal ganglion cells of the cat retina.
