Wireless Hybrid Transducer of Displacement-MMG/EMG

(in English) In order to evaluate the contractile function of skeletal muscle, is necessary to measure simultaneously both an electromyogram (EMG) and a mechanomyogram (MMG). By the accelerometer used in the conventional MMG measurement, the MMG measurement under the exercise cannot be made. The authors developed the MMG/EMG hybrid transducer which could measure both the displacement of the skin surface using a photo-reflector, namely displacement-MMG and the EMG with the Ag-AgCl electrode at the same time. The transducer is approximately 2.5 g in weight in 45mm L X 16mm W X 12mm H (without a transmission-logger module). The transducer is a wireless type to be used during exercising. In this study, the structure and the basic characteristics of the hybrid transducer was described, and the simultaneous measurement of displacement-MMG and EMG was made during a squat movement and an ergometer exercise. The authors succeeded in the measurement of MMG which could not be made under the exercise conventionally, and were able to consider the relationship between the displacement-MMG and EMG, measured simultaneously.
