Recently, various kinds of services such as energy saving and security monitoring were progressed by monitoring temperature, humidity, and infra-red on sensor networks which are deployed in the home or building. The power saving of sensor node itself will be important with the increasing number of sensor nodes, because the interval of maintenance including battery exchange will be pro-longed. We aim to develop the ultra-low power sensor node by utilizing the “Normally Off” operation by which the power of sensor is only activated during the sensing period. In this study, we have developed power measurement system which can monitor the power consumption of sensor and controller, respectively. We have measured the dynamic power consumption characteristics of temperature and humidity sensors. In addition, we have also measured the dynamic power consumption characteristics of microcontroller. Finally, we clarify the power reduction effect on sensor node by utilizing “Normally Off” operation. |
