Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The accurate detection of single-trial event-related potentials (ERP) is very important for the development of practical Brain-machine interfaces (BMI). This represents a classification problem in which the selection of the features obtained from electrical brain signals and the tuning of the classifier parameters must be adequately performed. In this work we propose an algorithm for the classification of auditory ERP that employs a combination of Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Support Vector Machines (SVM). Specifically, the algorithm use PSO to find the best EEG channel combination and SVM parameters that maximize the classification of ERP. We perform simulations to assess the performance of the proposed algorithm and compare it to a na\"{i}ve grid-search algorithm. Our results show that the proposed algorithm achieved an accuracy of 75%, similar to the grid-search approach, but using half of the channels and requiring one third of the time to reach an optimal solution.
