Infrared spectroscopic study on modification process of titania surface and its application to hybrid solar cells

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) [6,6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid (PCBA) was introduced as a surface modifier for TiO2/P3HT hybrid solar cells. The modification process was observed using in-situ infrared absorption spectroscopy in the multi-reflective geometry (MIR-IRAS). The spectra showed that longer deposition time leads to a physisorbed PCBA layer which is difficult to be removed by rinsing TiO2 surface with pure solvent. The modification of TiO2 with PCBA molecules drastically increased the short circuit current of a titania/poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) hybrid solar cell due to improved charge separation at the interface. The effects of excess physisorbed PCBAs were also discussed.
