In the Global Positioning System(GPS), calculation of position determination is carried out by multiplying the velocity of light wave and a time difference between a GPS satellite and a receiver. In the urban environment where large and high buildings are surrounded around roads, multipath signals from satellites which include inevitable delays shall degrade the accuracy of the position determination because the measurement range (pseudo range) includes a distance error. Moreover, visibility of the satellite consternation is restricted in the urban area that condition produces large position error also.
In this study, we introduce a fundamental simulation model which includes an influence of multipath environments in the GPS system and presents some simulation results. In the simulation model, virtual reception points are newly assumed for taking into account the multipath delayed signal from satellites. Simulation results show that the large position errors are occurred in spite of low HDOP conditions because the signals from invisible satellites are received as the multipath signals and are used for position calculation. The proposed fundamental evaluation model shall be enhanced in order to investigate the performance of multipath mitigation methods in the future. |
