Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) This report presents a multi-level optimization (MLO) method introduced to particle swarm optimization (PSO) for solving multi-objective optimization problems in antenna design. The method proposes a simple idea of separately minimizing all the sub-objective functions one by one, which is basically different from those of previously investigated methods. In this report, the effectiveness of the proposed MLO method are demonstrated and verified by the results when applying to a specific example, which is a 3-objective optimization problem of an antenna array that consists of two L-shaped folded monopole antennas (LFMAs) operating in the IEEE 802.11 b/g band of WLAN (2400~2484 MHz). Using the proposed method, three sub-objective functions respectively representing the reflection coefficient, the mutual coupling, and the entire antenna volume of the LFMA array are minimized separately in PSO, in order to obtain an optimal LFMA array with smaller size and higher antenna performance. The advantages of the proposed method in both deriving good optimization result and reducing the computational cost in the 3-objective optimization problem of LFMA array are demonstrated by comparing its performance with those of a conventional weighted aggregation (CWA) method, and a method using the concept of Pareto dominance (PD). The optimal LFMA array resulted by the proposed method has a 10% resonant bandwidth (S11≤-10 dB in 2.32~2.57 GHz), S21 reduced completely to less than -15 dB in this band, and the entire antenna volume decreased to only 28.5% of that of the original design.
