Permutation-free clustering-based source separation based on time-varying mixture weights

(in English) To avoid the permutation problem in clustering-based source separation, we introduce a mixture model with time-varying, frequency-independent weights. These weights model common amplitude modulation of the source signals across frequency bins. To prevent these weights from degrading the resulting source separation performance, we assume a Dirichlet prior for these weights to control their variability by adjusting a hyperparameter. Since the objective function (the a posteriori probability) tends to attain suboptimal local maxima at permuted
versions of the optimum parameter, we introduce a new optimization method that avoids such local maxima. Experiments (1) confirm that our clustering method enables source separation without the permutation problem and (2) compare the separation performance of this method with that of a recently developed method.
