Proposal of FFT-based Nonlinearity Monitoring Method for Digital Coherent Optical Transmission
Hideaki Kotake, Kohei Mandai, Nobuhiko Kikuchi (Hitachi) OCS2013-2
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Nonlinear optical effect which occurs inside the optical fiber (especially, XPM) is the predominant factor of the transmission impairment in long-haul WDM transmission. Thus, if we can monitor nonlinear degradation, signal quality of each fiber routes can be measured and optimization of optical network architecture can be realized. In this report, we proposed “FFT-based Nonlinearity Monitoring” as the new method to extract nonlinearity precisely in the frequency domain. We evaluated the monitoring performance of our proposed method by numerical simulations and experiments of 100G digital coherent PM-QPSK WDM transmission systems. As a result, we confirmed that the measured nonlinearity does not depend on OSNR value in numerical simulations and experiments.
