A Study on Symbol Timing Recovery for Transmit Diversity

(in English) Differential coding for transmit diversity is a technique which uses multiple antennas. Because the technique does not need CSI for demodulation, it has high frequency efficiency. In this paper, the symbol timing detection scheme for the demodulator which receives the signal encoded by the differential coding is investigated. The BTR is adopted to the demodulator. This scheme shows good performance in case that the signal at Nyquist point is constant. However, if the signal is encoded by the differential coding, the power of the encoded signal at Nyquist point has multiple level and the performance of the BTR deteriorates. To solve this problem, the modified BTR is proposed in this paper. By applying the proposed method, the variation of the signal amplitude at Nyquist point is suppressed in case that the differential encoding is performed. Finally, the impact of the modified BTR is evaluated by computer simulation.
