Semiconductor lasers tend to generate excess intensity noise called the optical feedback (OFB) noise. Superposition of high frequency (HF) current is used as a technique to suppress the OFB noise. This paper demonstrates numerical simulations on the phenomena of the OFB noise and its suppression effects by the superposition of HF current. The model used here was based on multimode rate equations that include non-linear gain, Langevin noise sources for photon number, phase and carrier fluctuation, the OFB and the HF superposition. Correspondence between experiment and simulation is also demonstrated. |
