In this paper, we proposed a new hybrid algorithm to segment acetabular cartilage in the hip joint. This statistical and anatomical information based algorithm is incorporated into a two-step system: pelvis bone segmentation using predictive statistical shape model and acetabular cartilage extraction based on probabilistic atlas and position of pelvis bone. We evaluated our new hybrid algorithm using enhanced Computed Tomography (CT) images by injecting the contrast media to the hip joint that were acquired at Osaka University Hospital. The mean and standard deviation of obtained results are 0.8 and 0.54 mm, respectively. |
