Technique for embedding depth maps into 2-D images

(in English) This paper proposes a new technique that is used to embed depth maps into corresponding 2-D images. Since a 2-D image and its depth map are integrated into one type of image format, they can be treated as if they were one 2-D image. Thereby, it can solve problems with the increased amount of data in 3-D images and extra process compared to typical 2-D images such as synchronization between images for the left and right eyes. The key to this technique is whether the depth maps could be embedded into their corresponding 2-D images without perceivably deteriorating the quality of 2-D images. We conducted an experiment to evaluate the quality of the 2-D images embedded with depth maps and found that satisfactory quality could be achieved.
