This paper considers five kinds of circuit topologies for RF diode rectifiers: single series, single shunt, bridge, double voltage, and double current. Assuming a finite available power of an RF source, we presents a load optimization theory to maximize the output power of each rectifier. In the theory, flow angle φ plays the key role to describe the behavior of the circuit. The flow angle is dominated by equation tanφ - φ = Ψ(R/r), where Ψ(R/r) is a fractional function of load-to-source resistance ratio R/r. The flow angle gives the DC output power of the rectifier. By solving the flow-angle equation, we get the optimum load resistance. As a result, maximum efficiency reaches 81.1% at R/r = 1 for single-diode half wave rectifiers. It also reaches 92.3% for multiple-diode full wave ones at R/r = 1.347 in bridge with capacitor, 5.389 in double-voltage, and 0.1854 in double-current topologies. |
