A Study on Ka-band High Speed Transmission System for Earth Exploration Satellites -- Study on LDPC codes and VCM/ACM System --

(in English) Corresponding to the increasing of the data transmission speed from Earth exploration satellites, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) has been studying Ka-band High-speed Transmission System since 2010, which provides more than 2 Giga bits per second (Gbps). To realize the high-speed transmission system in the Ka-band, the system needs to take measures against the rain attenuation which influence comes to be larger than that in X-band. As one of the measures, the adoption of the error correcting code which provide higher coding gain is required. In addition, for the throughput improvement, it is necessary to adopt the Adaptive Coding and Modulation technique (ACM). This paper discusses the result of the encoder circuit trial production and evaluation of the Low Density Parity Check codes performance by computer simulation, that provide higher coding gain, and the result of feasibility evaluation of Ka-band transmission system which applied Variable Coding and Modulation technique as the preparation step towards adoption of ACM.
