11 GHz Band Super High Bit Rate Mobile Communicaion System Employing CoMP and Evaluation by Outdoor Transmission Experiment

(in English) In order to increase bit-rate, more than 10 Gbps super high bit-rate mobile communications have been studied. For experimental verification of the feasibility, the 10 Gbps 8×16 MIMO-OFDM transmission experimental system that can use 400 MHz frequency band in 11 GHz has been made, and the indoor and outdoor experiments for 10 Gbps transmission have been conducted. On the other hand, coordinated multipoint (CoMP) in LTE-Advanced has been investigated as a technique for improving the transmission performance at the cell boundary. This report considers the most suitable system configuration for CoMP that supports super high bit-rate mobile communications with MIMO transmission in 11 GHz. Specifically, in addition to a base station (BS) with low-height antennas for a small cell, a BS with relatively high-height antennas for a micro cell is employed to cause multipath propagation, which aims to enhance the effect of CoMP transmission. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of the system configuration, an outdoor transmission experiment is conducted. A mobile station with eight transmit antenna elements spatially multiplexes signals, and two BSs with eight receive antenna elements perform CoMP reception. It is shown that the system configuration can expand the coverage area of more than 10 Gbps throughput compared with 8×16 MIMO transmission with one BS. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that CoMP can reduce the number of antennas by selecting the optimal number of antennas of each BS, compared with non-CoMP.
