Speckle reduction method based on independency of broadband echo signal

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Recently, various methods has been studied in a ultrasonic diagnostic equipment for removing speckle noise included in the echo image and catching the detail of the amount and distribution of diseased tissue. In this study, we focus on independence between speckle noise included in the liver echo signal and the echo signal that reflected the biological tissue structures, and propose a speckle reduction method based on independent component analysis (ICA). In order to remove the speckle noise which is independent signal component from tissue structure, we virtually increase the observed signal by observing same liver using broadband probe by different frequency, and we applied this signals on ICA. The ICA separation results from clinical data of cirrhosis, two of “data only positive value” and “data with a value of both positive and negative” is obtained, and we have confirmed that the speckle noise is extracted to the former and the positive portion of the latter, fibrous structure is extracted to the negative portion of the latter. From this result, the possibility of a new speckle reduction method based on independence has been shown.
