An Avoidance of Particle Intensification in Multiple Sound Source Tracking

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Particle filters are widely used for sound source tracking using microphone arrays. When there are multiple sound sources, however, a particle intensification problem arises. The intensification of particles toward active sound sources often occurs in the silent periods of the other sound sources, and after that, tracking every sound source is disabled. To overcome this problem, groups of particles are newly introduced and assigned to each source. The intensification is detected by measuring an inter-group distance, and then the particles are reallocated. Several experimental results in an actual environment showed that the proposed method could track multiple sound sources in real-time.
