This study discusses the generating mechanism of the common-mode voltage in FM-radio band at the input terminal of a step-down converter. The following mechanism was clarified: The common mode voltage is generated by a through-current which flows between a positive power supply line and a negative one when the transistors in the converter are turned on. The voltage depends on the balance of the impedance between both power supply lines. Even though the impedances of these lines are balanced, the balance is lost due to the capacitance Cs formed parasitically between the middle point of transistor-arm and ground. From these results, to reduce the common mode voltage, it is necessary to balance the impedances between both power supply lines, and to make the capacitances of the balance circuit much larger than the Cs. |
