The MIMO (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) system having multiple antennas at the both sides of the transmitter and the receiver has been studied, and SM (Spatial Modulation) has been recently proposed as a new concept for MIMO system which can offer high spectral efficiency with lower complexity. In the SM scheme, the receiver exploits the random variation of wireless channel between each pair of the transmit and the receive antennas and which detects not only the signal constellation but also the transmitting antenna. However, SM might not yield adequate performance in the environment where the direct wave is great because the signals emitted by the transmit antenna are not distinguishable from the others at the receiver. In this paper, we consider the system which detects the signal constellation and the transmitting antenna simultaneously by MLD (Maximum-Likelihood Detection). We evaluate by numerical computer simulations the performance of SM in a multipath environment where a delay wave exists and a direct wave is great. We show that the performance of SM can be improved in the environment where the delay wave exists, and newly propose the power allocation and the phase control of the transmit signals methods to improve the performance of SM where a direct wave is great. |
