Quantitative Analysis of Amyloid Deposits in PET/CT Images

(in English) For early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease (AD), it is effective to quantitatively evaluate deposits of amyloid into gray matter, which can be estimated from an Amyloid PET (Positron Emission Tomography) image. However, the deposit quantity in gray matter tends to be underestimated, which is caused by partial volume effect (PVE) due to the lower spatial resolution of PET. This study proposes a method to correct the PVE of a PET image using an X-ray CT image, where they are simultaneously acquired by PET/CT, and to restore the quantitative property in evaluating deposits of amyloid. We show the effectiveness by comparing the result based on an X-ray CT image with that based on an MRI image, obtained from a healthy volunteer.
