A Study of Synchronization Methods for Digital Public Private Mobile Radio Systems Employing Heterogeneous Cognitive Radio

(in English) In this paper, to actualize the heterogeneous cognitive radio system which combines digital public private mobile radio systems (DPPMRS) and commercial mobile wireless communication systems (CMWCS), we propose a synchronization method of the DPPMRS. This cognitive radio can improve bit error rate (BER) performance of the DPPMRS by receiving subsidiary information used to decrease BER of the DPPMRS from the CMWCS. However, the problem with cognitive radio is that the subsidiary information cannot be utilized when the communication quality of the DPPMRS becomes extremely poor and the synchronization of the DPPMRS is lost. For this reason, we propose a DPPMRS’ symbol synchronization method by employing timing synchronization derived from the Global Positioning System (GPS). The cognitive radio can acquire the symbol synchronization by using time information of the GPS and the subsidiary information having the information of transiting time of the DPPMRS. When time error happened in the GPS, since the radio-wave-propagation delay and the delaying waves occur, the symbol synchronization timing of this method shifts from the optimal timing. Thus, we propose a mitigation method of the timing shift and evaluate BER performance degradation caused by the timing shift using a computation simulation.
