These days, many research efforts have been devoted to support system for safe driving, which involves GNSS-based positioning and inter-vehicle communications. In urban areas, positioning precision might be greatly degraded by multipath errors due to obstruction and reflection of roadside buildings. On the other hand, positioning outage may also occur because there are no sufficient satellites when simply removing all reflected signals. Aiming at solving this dilemma in relative positioning, spatial correlation of multipath errors between adjacent vehicles is investigated. On this basis, a cooperative relative positioning scheme is suggested, which leverages all correlated signals, including reflected ones, in fixing relative positions. Problems in relative positioning, the concept of cooperative relative positioning, investigation of spatial correlation in multipath errors, efficient exchange of pseudo-ranges, correlation detection of multipath signals, and experimental results of relative positioning are presented in this paper. |
