Recently, We developed new method to measure viscosity, ElectroMagnetically Spinning (EMS) viscometer. In this method, a metal sphere is used as a probe and driving torque is applied by electromagnetical interaction. Though the EMS viscometer achieved high accuracy in low viscosity measurement by reducing mechanical friction compared with rotational viscometer, the rotational friction between spinning sphere and test tube can be the cause of error. In order to attain further improvement in accuracy, we developed new apparatus of viscosity measurement, called Electromagnetically Revolving (EMR) viscometer. In this system, a metal sphere, used as a probe, rolls and revolves around a circular orbit under a rotating magnetic field, and the revolution period of the sphere gives the viscosity. We succeeded to improve accuracy by reducing mechanical friction because the rolling friction shows lower value than the rotational friction. To get the optimal condition for measurement, examined the form of schale and magnet, radius and height from the magnet of circular orbit. In addition, the application to viscosity measurement of ethanol solutions is also shown. |
