A novel algorithm for polarization estimation in Stokes space is proposed. This algorithm is intended for coherent burst-mode receiver applications and is experimentally validated and compared with a standard CMA tap initialization. We show that for an OSNR producing a payload BER of 10^-3, 16 estimation points are enough to reliably initialize the CMA equalizer and successfully demultiplex the state of polarization in the digital domain of coherent PDM-QPSK modulated optical packets with a short custom header. |
