Virtual 3D Auditory Displays (VADs), systems capable of presenting rich 3D auditory space information, have received signifcant attention. Our interest focuses on VADs that re-create the sound pressures at the listener's ears using head-related transfer functions (HRTFs). Here, HRTFs should match the listener's head movement for a natural listening experience, requiring head tracking. Available solutions, however, call for sensors attached to the listener; a requirement we seek to overcome. We developed a new head tracking system based on stereo cameras using phase-only correlation and particle filtering. The proposed head tracking system was coupled with a VAD middleware called SiFASo. |
