Multi-input multi-output (MIMO) transmission system that utilize a higher frequency band and a wider bandwidth is known as a very strong candidate means to to implement a super high bit-rate mobile communications. When employing a higher frequency band, a large number of mobile terminals are forced to communicate with the base station in a line-of-sight (LOS) channel. Separating the received MIMO signals in a LOS channel becomes a virtually impossible task and results in deterioration in the channel capacity. To validate the effectiveness of the reflector approach, which resolve the problem of the MIMO transmission in the LOS channel, we conducted a outdoor propagation experiment of 8x8 MIMO in 11 GHz band with a 45 cm x 37 cm metal reflector. The results of data analysis on the measured channel data show the effectiveness of the reflector. In addition, we also performed a computer simulation for the 8x8 MIMO transmission using the measured channel data, and show the improvement of the throughput due to the reflector by evaluating throughput performances of transmission using 64QAM with coding rate of 3/4 and adaptive modulation and coding. |
