In order to verify IPv4 address sharing technologies such as CGN (Carrier Grade NAT),
it is needed to use the realistic traffic in which subscribers of an ISP are simulated in the aspect of Layer 4 or more, including the number of sessions per user.
We modeled the communication behavior of the user on the basis of actual measurement of communication to the Web site and various applications.
By large-scale user emulated traffic generation mechanism built on StarBED, we generated the simulated Internet traffic and verified the CGN (NAT444) equipment.
Based on the result, we derived the performance evaluation of the CGN (NAT444) equipment and the considerations of actual deployment, and also confirmed the effectiveness of the verification methodology.
We propose that this approach is widely effective as a verification method of IPv4 address sharing technologies generally. |
