[Special Invited Talk] Current International Standardization Activity on Future Networks/New Generation Network

(in English) Research and development (R&D) of the NeW Generation Network (NWGN) had been initiated. The approach of the NWGN R&D is not to stick to the current Internet architecture and is to design with “Clean Slate” from high-level requirements that derived from future societies. Research and development in the U.S. and Europe are more activated in recent years. The conceptual design phase for investigation of “What is the Future Network” was finished, and the detail design phase for study of “how to implement the Future Network" has been started. Standardization process may be essential to deploy and commercialize the result of R&D for building ridged social infrastructure. ITU-T Y.3001 that describes basic concept of Future Networks was standardized as a result of the conceptual design phase. Furthermore several de facto standardization activities are also initiated.
In this presentation, current status on international standardization activities for NWGN or Future networks is shown.
