[Invited Talk] Development of MRLS (Mountaineer's Radio Locating Sysytem)

(in English) The MRLS (Mountaineer’s Radio Locating System) is the device to search and locate the point of causalities, who are lost their ways as well as in the distress by the snow avalanche. The mountaineer brings with the MRLS-beacon equipped with the GPS receiver. The SOS-beacon signal is searched by the MRLS-finder. These devices are linked by the 140MHz-band wave. The MRLS-finder looks for casualties by not only using the GPS data from the beacon, but also the direction finding of the SOS-beacon signal in the case when no GPS data are available. It is confirmed from the field experiment that the ground-based MRLS-finder can find the MRLS-beacon in the range of about 2 km in the mountain, and the one onboard helicopter over 6 km.
