An application of a polarization-dependent artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) reflector with a rectangular unit cell to two loop antennas with different frequencies and polarizations was investigated. The reflection phase response of the AMC reflector and the matching characteristics and the radiation patterns of the loop antennas placed above the AMC reflector were evaluated based on electromagnetic simulations assuming 500-MHz band for the horizontal polarization and 800-MHz band for the vertical polarization. As a result, the polarization-dependent AMC reflector with a phase response very close to the expected one was obtained, even though the horizontal and vertical dimensions of the unit cell were designed independently. The reflection coefficients of the loop antennas were minimum at the frequencies with the reflection phase of around 30$^o$ for the AMC reflector. The calculated radiation patterns revealed the realized gains were 8.9 dBi and 10.6 dBi for 500-MHz band and 800-MHz band respectively. |
