Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Various optical textures that reflect the nonuniformity of the molecular orientation can be observed using a polarizing microscope for a combination of liquid crystal phases and glass surface conditions. The optical textures in the nematic and the chiral nematic are called as schlieren and fingerprint texture, respectively. Due to the randomness of the textures, although all devices with nonuniform optical textures are made under the same condition, they should have different patterns like human fingerprints. So we have proposed the security devices using random patterns of optical texture as high-security identification information.
