[Invited Talk] Latest developments for realizing flexible mobile networks

(in English) This article describes a flexible mobile networks equipped with flexible system resource management that allows network operators to provide highly-demanded communication services until the limit of the system resource. With highlighting technical challenges around the flexible mobile networks, this article introduces lessons learned from the two
government-funded research projects called “Experimental challenges for dynamic virtualized networking resource control over an evolved mobile core network - a new approach to reduce massive traffic congestion after a devastating disaster” and“Research and development of network conversion of communication processing functions in large-scale communication congestion”. In addition, an international collaborative project, called NFV-ISG (Network Functions Virtualization Industry
Specification Group) has been established in ETSI (The European Telecommunications Standards Institute) in November, 2012. This group has attracted a number of network operators, equipment vendors and software vendors, and has facilitated extensive discussion on the flexible mobile networks. This article also covers the latest developments created by this group.
