In recent years, heterogeneous cellular network has been considered, as a system model which has several types of cells (i.e. macro cell, small cell) overlaid in the same area in order to achieve high capacity and speed transition. In heterogeneous cellular network, many small cell deployment can substantially increases the network energy consumption. Therefore, the scheme that a control station of core network wakes up only small number of small cells which might communicate with UE(User Equipment) has been proposed. However, since small cell is waked up after UE transmits a handoff request, handoff needs to several seconds. In this paper, we propose an adjacent small cell pre-activation scheme based on predicted location of UE by control station of core network in order to reduce delay for a real-time application e.g. streaming service in heterogeneous cellular network. In our scheme, an UE measures RSS(Received Signal Strength) of the connected small cell and transmits a handoff signal to a macro cell when RSS degrades to a certain extent. Furthermore, in our scheme, a control station of core network only activates the nearest small cells to the UE which contributes to save much energy. The simulation results show that our proposed scheme reduces the delay for handoff at about 0.1 [sec] with slightly increased energy consumption. |
